The Crews Quarters showing stairs to the Galley above
The Crews Quarters is the main classroom area for Taymara members training on a Thursday evening.
Each bunk in the Crews Quarters has a rack for papers and books.
Old radio equipment, a morse code practise key and an officers cap.
Leaving the Crews Quarters by a short flight of stairs takes you down to the engine room. The fuel tanks (pictured right) are beside these stairs.
Outlet valve from one of the tanks.
6 Russell Newbury diesels - 3 run the generators for electrical power and 3 run the air compressors to fill the pressure tanks supplying the fog horn.
3 large tanks held a large volume of fairly low pressure air to operate the foghorn. These were used and recharged in turn.
This overhead tank still has the cans to catch the drips!
In case of Electric Shock....Keep Cool. Original first aid poster.
Also in the engine room is the vessel’s main electrical switchgear.
Largely intact, like most of North Carr’s equipment, the switchgear is a prime candidate for sympathetic restoration.
Header tank supplies fuel directly to the engines.

The chain locker lies forward of the engine room but is separated by a watertight bulkhead. This is the far end of the chain locker showing the steam generator on the right. The wooden “cupboard” on the left is the vessel’s fridge.
